Az alapot 24 cm hosszú, 18 cm széles kemény tüll tojásdad alak képezi. Ezt a külszéltől kezdve könnyedén ráncolt 5 cm széles csipkével kör alakban ékítjük, még pedig akként, hogy egy sor csipke 2 cm-nyire álljon ki a másikon. Miután 3-4 ily kört elkészítettünk, először a 9 cm nagyságú szalag- vagy kelmerózsákat az alapra és ezt még a csipkével végképp befedjük.
